Clerk Mendoza issues statement in support of Mayor Emanuel’s address on public safety

Thursday, September 22, 2016

Chicago City Clerk Susana A. Mendoza issued the following statement in support of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s address on public safety on Thursday evening:

“The City of Chicago is facing a challenge unlike any other in its history, a challenge marked by tragedy and loss. It has affected friends and families and divided our beloved neighborhoods. However, at times like these we are stronger together than we are apart.”

“Mayor Rahm Emanuel is taking bold steps to bring stability and justice to our City. I support his plan to boost funding for mentorship and social service programs, invest in our neighborhoods, add 1,000 police officers and introduce reforms in City Council.”

“In the City Clerk’s Office, we are judged by how well we run an Office that generates millions of dollars for the City. I’m proud that, between 2011 and 2016, my Office dramatically improved customer service, raising tens of millions of dollars in new, sustainable revenue, without asking taxpayers to pay more. While our money historically funds infrastructure projects, my view is that every extra dollar we save or earn should be invested in human capital.”

“We all have a role to play in creating a roadmap for the future. We must pave a new direction for Chicago that leaves no one behind. I stand fully committed to helping build a better path that helps to heal our fractured City and gives all Chicagoans an opportunity to succeed.”
