Journals of the Proceedings
City Clerk Miguel del Valle’s office produces the City Council Journals of the Proceedings, which serves as the official record of City Council meetings and reflects all legislative actions. The Journals of the Proceedings is published prior to the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
To increase city government transparency, City Clerk del Valle recently had City Council Journals of the Proceedings’ archives scanned and posted on the website going back to 1981.
There are many options on how to search for a legislative record in the Journals of the Proceedings. By clicking on the meeting date and the committee in the table of contents, you can use the “find” button in Acrobat Reader to search the document using a key word or phrase.
If you are not sure which City Council meeting to select, you can either perform a search or you can refer to the Guide to Legislation to view brief synopses of legislation.
To view the Chicago City Council Journals of the Proceedings, you will need to download the free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader on to your computer. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, larger files may take longer to load. Please wait for the full download before use.
For an official certified copy of any legislative document, please contact our City Council Division at (312) 744-6870.
If you believe any of the Journals of the Proceedings are missing or that a link is broken, please email us at cityclerk@cityofchicago.org.
