| Sticker Design Contest
Annually, City Clerk Miguel del Valle hosts a vehicle sticker art contest for all Chicago high school students, grades 9-12. Students are invited to submit artwork highlighting a selected theme. The goal of the art contest is to create city-wide awareness on a selected topic and have high school students from all over the city participate with their government in an educational and creative way. A panel of independent professionals, including artists, civic leaders and local media celebrities review all entries and vote for the top ten finalists. The artwork of the ten finalists is voted on by the public.
The student winner receives a $1,000 savings bond from City Clerk del Valle and the artwork appears on Chicago vehicle stickers displayed on approximately 1.3 million automobiles beginning in June 2009. Second and third place contestants receive $500 and $250 savings bonds, respectively. The seven remaining finalists each receive $100 savings bonds.
City Clerk del Valle partnered with the Department of Animal Care and Control for the 2009 - 2010 Vehicle Sticker Art Design Contest. The theme was Dog Friendly Chicago and students were asked to submit artwork highlighting the City of Chicago’s efforts to make Chicago a dog friendly city, including dog friendly areas, bringing dogs to outdoor cafes, and the benefits of registering a dog with the city.
Congratulations to Denise Ferguson, a senior at Corliss High School, who was chosen by the public as the winning student artist. Her sticker will be displayed on approximately 1.3 million vehicle stickers beginning in June 2009. Second and third place winners are Brittany Byrne, a senior at Resurrection High School and Ricardo Silva, a senior at John Hancock High School, respectively. Please visit City Clerk del Valle’s website in September to find out next year’s theme.
