In December of 2018, City Clerk Anna Valencia launched the Chicago Fines, Fees and Access Collaborative bringing together City Departments, community advocates, academic institutions, elected officials and residents to review current practices and develop both short-term and long-term recommendations to address these issues. The goal of the Collaborative was to create immediate as well as lasting transformational change to the current systems helping our residents achieve and maintain compliance.
In the past six months, the Collaborative has evaluated various issues pertaining to our City's fines and fees practices. Today we are happy to announce our 14 recommendations to not only to reform but rebuild our City's collection practices as we strike to make our City a city that works for all its residents.
