The driver of a commercial vehicle may display a special Contractor’s Placard to avoid certain types of tickets or fines while parked on a residential street. The placard should be visible through the vehicle’s windshield.
Commercial vehicles as defined by Section 9-64-170(e) of the Municipal Code of Chicago are eligible for a Contractor’s Placard. This includes any vehicle marked or emblazoned with the name of a business or otherwise represented as part of any type of commercial enterprise.
Junk trucks are not eligible, nor are vehicles with unenclosed cargo beds that have been modified to increase capacity. Vehicles with a gross weight of 8,000 or more pounds are not eligible.
Please note: The Contractor’s Placard program is not administered by the Office of the Chicago City Clerk. We have posted this information on our website as a courtesy only.
