City Sticker Amnesty Month 2026

AMNESTY IS FORGIVENESS. The Office of the City Clerk is bringing back City Sticker Amnesty Month. From Wednesday, April 1 to Thursday, April 30, 2026, vehicle owners can purchase their City Sticker with no late fees and back charges. The City Clerk's Office is offering amnesty at 3 Saturday Mobile City Hall events and on the City Clerk’s 24/7 online store ezbuy.chicityclerk.com must have or create an account by April 17, 2026).*

Residents can participate in City Sticker amnesty in three ways

1. Visit any of the following Office of the City Clerk or Department of Finance location (see below)

2. Come to a Mobile City Hall event during one of the following dates:

  • April 11 | Orr High School | 730 N. Pulaski Rd. | 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • April 18 | Kroc Center | 1250 W. 119th St. | 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • April 25 | Avalon Park | 1215 E. 83rd St. | 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

3. Go to the City Clerk’s 24/7online store ezbuy.chicityclerk.com (must have or create an account by April 17, 2026)*

Visit one of the City Clerk or Department of Finance locations to purchase a City Sticker with no late fees and back charges from Wednesday, April 1 to Thursday, April 30, 2026.

You can go to any of the three Office of the City Clerk locations from Monday - Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.:

You can purchase your City Stickers with no late fees and back charges at the City Clerk’s Office Mobile City Hall events. The Clerk’s Office is hosting three Saturday events in April:

Drivers that have been out of compliance for more than 6 months or are new residents purchasing online for the first time will need to create a record at bit.ly/OCCEForm. Any attempts to create a record after April 17, 2026, are not guaranteed to be processed in time for Amnesty Month, and it’s recommended that drivers who miss that deadline come in person instead.

City Sticker Amnesty Month FAQ

Who needs to buy a City Sticker?

All Chicago residents driving, parking, leasing and/or owning a vehicle they are responsible for in the city of Chicago are subject to the Chicago Wheel Tax and must purchase a Chicago City Sticker within 30 days of establishing residency in Chicago or acquiring a new vehicle to avoid late fees and fines.

What is City Amnesty Month and Amnesty April?

The Office of the City Clerk is waiving City Sticker late fees and back charges for drivers from April 1-30, 2026. This means during the month of April, drivers can purchase a City Sticker from the City Clerk with no late fees and back charges.

Why Amnesty Month?

The City Clerk's Office is doing this because Chicagoans deserve a break. This is an opportunity to get back on track without worrying about coming up with extra money. 

How can I purchase my City Sticker during Amnesty Month?

All City Sticker purchases for Amnesty Month must be made by April 30, 2026, to be eligible. 

What do I need to purchase my City Sticker during Amnesty Month?
  1. Valid Government Issued Photo ID (Driver's License, State ID, Military ID or Passport)
  2. Current full State Vehicle Registration Card (that lists the name and address of the registered owner, complete VIN number, license plate, plate expiration date)
  3. Proof of address in the form of a current utility bill, mortgage statement or lease
  4. *If vehicle is new to you, Bill of Sale from a bona fide vehicle seller/dealership
  5. Payment (payment options include: cash, credit and debit cards, money order, or check)
What if I can’t afford a one-year City Sticker?

The City Clerk's Office offers a Reduced Term City Sticker, which is a 4-month City Sticker. Additionally, our office offers a two-year City Sticker and one-year City Sticker. 

How do I know if I am eligible for forgiveness?

All Chicago residents are eligible and can purchase their City Sticker with no late fees and back charges during April 2026.

Is this program open to undocumented individuals?

Yes, anyone is eligible and can purchase their City Sticker with no late fees and back charges during April 2026, regardless of immigration status.

Can I take advantage of the City Sticker Amnesty at the Currency Exchange?

No, you can only purchase City Stickers at any Office of the City Clerk or Department of Finance location, online using EzBuy (must have or create an account by April 17, 2026)* or at a Mobile City Hall event during April 2026.
