Clerk Valencia announces Amnesty April for City Stickers
Drivers can purchase a City Sticker without late fees or back charges throughout April
CHICAGO – City Clerk Anna Valencia announced in her City Club speech today the return of the Office of the City Clerk’s Amnesty Month program to start April 1, 2025 running through April 30, 2025, allowing vehicle owners to purchase their City Sticker without late fees and back charges.
“As the cost of basic necessities puts a strain on our families, it’s important that we do what we can to give them a break,” Valencia said. “We know that when we give people a realistic path to get back on track - if we toss them a lifeline - they’ll take it, so this is a win for residents and the City alike.”
During the month of April, residents can visit any Office of the City Clerk or Department of Finance location and participate in Amnesty Month by purchasing their City Sticker.
All Chicago residents driving, parking, leasing and/or owning a vehicle for which they are responsible in the City of Chicago are subject to the Chicago Wheel Tax and must purchase a Chicago City Sticker. For more information about Chicago City Stickers, visit our FAQ at bit.ly/ChiCityClerkSticker.
“Amnesty Month was one of the reforms that came out of our Fines, Fees & Access Collaborative that began in 2019,” Valencia said. “As we look towards the upcoming budget, we should be revisiting this work and assessing different options to avoid regressive fines and fees that burden our most vulnerable residents.”
